What is Indigenous?

The term Indigenous refers to the original peoples and ways of life prior to western civilization’s domination through conquer and colonization. Today, indigenous peoples work toward living, practicing, and weaving the threads of their original cultures and ways of life into the contemporary world and the future.

 

Awakening

The state of being conscious.

1.the act of awaking from sleep. 2. a revival of interest or attention. 3. a recognition, realization, or coming into awareness of something. 4. a renewal of interest in religion, especially in a community; a revival.

Indigenous Awakening

Indigenous Awakening is a call to be conscious to the original people and life ways of the world. Indigenous Awakening seeks to weave forward the strands of the original cultures into the future and to honor the ways of indigenous people everywhere. Indigenous Awakening honors all ways of life and all people.

Barbara Bain

Barbara Bain is an enrolled member of the Shasta Indian Nation consulting in the field of Indigenous Psychology. She holds a Master of Arts in Depth Psychology and a Master of Science in Cultural and Natural Resource Management. She currently specializes in Indigenous Land and Resources and is a Ph.D. Candidate at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California.
